Robert Coggswell & Elias Durfee

License For Tavern 1841 Duly Filed A.W. Eddy, Town Clerk

Know all men by these presents that we Robert Coggswell and Elias Durfee are held and firmly bound unto the people of the State of New York in the sum of one hundred and twenty five dollars to be paid to the said people for which payment well and truly to be made we bind ourselves "our heirs' executory and administers jointly and severally firmly by these presents - Sealed with our Seals - Dated the 6th day of November 1839

Whereas the above bounders Robert Coggswell has applied to the Commissioners of Excise of the town of Marion in the County of Wayne for a license to sell strong and spirituous liquors and wines to be drunk in the House now occupied by William Quay in the said town whereas he proposes to keep an Inn or Tavern.

Now therefore the Condition of this Obligation to such that if the said Robert Coggswell during the time he shall keep an inn or tavern shall not suffer it to be disorderly or suffer any cock fighting gaming or playing with cards or dice or keep any billiard table or other gaming table within the tavern so by him kept or in any out house yard or garden belonging thereto then this obligation to be void otherwise to remain in force

At a meeting of the Commissioners of Excise for the Town of Marion in the County of Wayne on the 6th day of January 1841 present Seth Eddy Supervisor - Cornelius Putnam and Benjamin B. Durfee Justices of the Peace of the said Town Resolved that License be granted to Robert Cogswell to retail strong and spirituous liquors and wines and that the sum to be paid for such license is Five dollars in witnes whereof we the Said Commisioners have hereunto Subscribed our names the day and year above written.
