Early Roads and Migration Trails

University of Kansas Searchable Database of Books and Articles: not just Kansas. State histories, memoirs, etc. of the Heartland, that can help trace people back to where they came from - "Back East". These searchable online volumes are an excellent resource, containing the names of a horde of New Yorkers, often giving a helpful, chronological list of their successive, farflung residences. Unfortunately, the NYS town and county are not always specified, so there may be short bios of many more Wayne County people whom one could find using a surname search.

Central New York Genealogical Society:
"Tree Talks," their quarterly publication, contains abstracted material from 48 central NY counties, including Wayne. One issue each year contains an indexed transcription of an early NY County Census. There is also a Surname List of families members are researching.
