ELLA MAY STEBBINS

Found in Ontario County in a junk box in the summer of 2004, this photo of 21-year old Ella May Stebbins of Marion was taken by Gurnee photographers, location not stated, in January 1900. Wouldn't it be great if all early photos had this detail on the back! Ella May Stebbins was born Aug. 1, 1878, and died Nov. 18, 1905, age 27-3-17. Ella May, her parents, and a brother are found on our site in the Marion Cemetery listings.

Stebbins, Henry D, 1842 - 1920
Stebbins, Emily P, wife, 1847 - 1900 (nee Crane)
Stebbins, Ella, dau, 1878 - 1905
Stebbins, Arthur, son, 1890 - 1908

I did some checking on ancestry.com and a slew of people have both her and her parents in their database. Check it out for more info. If she's related to you, please contact the site coordinators and tell us about her and her family. This photo will be donated to the Office of the County Historian.

A WALWORTH ACADEMY STUDENT

Found in Ontario County in the same junk box in the spring of 2003. This carte de visite is also dated on the back 1883, with notation "Seldon B. Ford, A Schoolmate," in the same handwriting as the above photo. Photo taken in Rochester N.Y. by Pomeroy photographer, with date printed on back by printing machine. This is probably Seldon Ford, found in the 1880 census of Marion, Wayne County NY, age 20, farm laborer, residing in the household of Veniah Rice. He might be the Seldon B. Ford residing in Albion, Calhoun County MI, b. NY ca 1861, age 68 in the 1930 census. If he's related to you, please contact the site coordinators and tell us about him. This photo will be donated to the Office of the County Historian.
