INSTALLATION OF HEADSTONE OF STEPHEN BANCRAFT / BANCROFT
Baker Cemetery
WALWORTH, NY
WAYNE COUNTY, NY
Contributed by Daryl VerStreate, Jr. and Amanda Verstreate
Site Coordinator's Note: These photos were taken at the SAR and VFW ceremony for the installation of Revolutionary War patriot Stephen Bancraft's veteran's marker
at Baker Cemetery in the spring of 2006. Our researchers interested in the Bancroft family refer to Stephen Sr. by both surnames Bancraft and
Bancroft. The County Historian's Office list for Baker Cemetery has:
BANCROFT, Stephen, Mar. 6, 1831, 77y
BANCROFT, Sarah, wife, Jan. 21, 1834, 82y
Prominent in these photos is the tall, flat headstone of Stephen's wife, Sarah Strong, with Stephen's broken stone lying next to it. This is a selection of
photos taken by Amanda and Daryl Verstreate, Jr. (SAR Graves Chairman) at the ceremony.
