Old Galen Cemetery is located in what is now the Town of Savannah, which was part of Galen until 1824. Messner Farm and Creager Bridge Cemeteries are located in the Town of Galen. The Old Galen and Messner Farm readings were made in 1943 by Mrs. H. T. Jeffery, of Palmyra, for the Col. William Prescott Chapter of the N. S. D. A. R. The cemetery incorrectly named Quaker Bridge Cemetery was read in 1942. Passages in quotes are from Mrs. Jeffery's original notes. We have no further information on the cemeteries or the individuals buried in them.

The following cemetery was updated 2/24/99 by Leola Crane Sutton:
"This cemetery got put on the web with an incorrect name. (and one of the tombstones was incorrect also). I visited it this summer with my cousin and the Galen Historian, and he told me it's name is Creager instead of Quaker Bridge. Dorothy Strohm was one of my ancestors. I was hoping to find more in the pile of stones, but it was too overgrown when we were there, and lots of poison ivy, which I catch by just inhaling it. You might want to add the following horrifying piece of information I found in the Galen records. A schoolhouse was erected next to the old cemetery (this would have been well before the 1940's). The school teacher at the time had the children break off the tombstones, and throw them in a big pile. She wanted to GET THEM OUT OF THE WAY. The pile of stones is still there, but it is REALLY overgrown, and unless someone gets in there (with a strong back) before poison ivy and snakes take over in the spring, there's no hope of reading them."

2005 Driving Directions - Rte. 31 West out of Clyde, toward Lyons. Left onto Gansz Rd. At end of Gansz Road make left hand turn over one-way bridge. First immediate right, follow over tracks and up hill. Continue about 2/10 mile near where road bends. Cemetery is off on the left in a clearing near the woods.
The original 1942 reading of Mrs. H. T. Jeffery had these notes: "Located in the south west corner of Galen Township. Years ago there was a Lutheran Church
where the school stands (in 1942). There are several stones piled in the back corner of the grounds but their
weight and snakes make copying difficult. "
BARRICK, David, d. June 28, 1835, 58yrs
(Note: previous cemetery list incorrectly listed him as David Patrick. I ([Leola] checked this on the stone, and also on the map of 1874. He lived just down from the cemetery near the bridge.)
CRAEGER (unreadable first name), d. May 22, 1843, 23yr 5mo 28da
JONES, Mary, d. June 26, 1835, 84 or 34 yr, consort of Richard
PULLEN, Mary, d. December 14, 1835, 29yrs, wife of Jedediah
STROHM, Dorothy (no dates)
WELLS, Mary, d. January 19, 1830, 52yrs, wife of Ananias
WELLS, Polly, October 2, 1778 - January 19, 1830, 51yrs, wife of Ananias
Note: regarding the conflicting Wells entries. Polly was the most common nickname for Mary in the 19th century, causing confusion for those unaware of the convention. Perhaps one entry came from another resource.
