Ch. Fairville; denomination Presby.; value of church and lot 5000; seats 225; 140 usual number in attendance; number of communicants or regular members 35; salary of clergy besides use of real estate 700. Inns, hotels and taverns - 2; retail stores and groceries - 2 Remarks on the harvest of 1874: Wheat and applies 1/3 more than usual: potatoes 1/4 more than usual: peaches almost are entire failure, from extreme cold of winter: peppermint oil is one of the principal crops grown in this part of the town: 1/4 less than usual crop on account of low price previous year. Other crops a fair average. Domestic animals in cities & villages (domestic animals kept by those who occupy no farming lands): 15 horses; 13 cows. Remarks on the mortality of the year ending June 1, 1875: Unusual good health has prevailed in this district during the year. The deaths are mostly of elderly people. No prevailing epidemic during the year. General remarks: I would suggest that hereafter columns be prepared by which the no. acres, amt. and value of the peppermint crop may be more fully reported as Wayne County raises the principal part of the oil agrown in the world. Our people are frugal, industrious, and peaceful. Religious institutions are well sustained. The new "Compulsary School Law" is attracting but very little attention, either from officers or patrons.
