Fine locally Grown Fruits, Vegetables and Flowers were for sale on the lawn of the Pultneyville Historical Society Museum. These photos were taken on the day of the annual community-wide garage sale, a much-anticipated fundraising event that benefits the Society. I try to make this every year, traveling 350+ miles to enjoy what's always a glorious day to be out and about at THE place to be that day... and a few thousand others agree with me. So far every time I've attended the sky has been bright blue, the temperature perfect or close to it, and everyone's smiling and having a good time. Every year the Society's members offer baskets of picture perfect home-grown peaches, pears and apples, cauliflower, peppers, tomatoes, potted house and garden plants, and more, including heaping baskets of gigantic blackberries, all donated by local farmers and gardeners. Be sure to go inside the museum to make your selection of one of the many varieties of delicious gourmet pies. Antiques vendors are set up in Centennial Park, across the road from Gates Hall, inside of which is more good stuff for sale, and outside of which is the popular fresh-popped kettle corn stand! As you stroll up and down the road, hauling your bags of goodies and good deals, don't miss the huge garage sale in the basement of the United Methodist Church. In a world of our being bombarded with bad news, this special day and family event in the village of Pultneyville makes me forget the news for a little while. I like to take a break from shopping to sit on a bench at the Captains Monument, to gaze out upon the lake from our inland shore. There is a sense of safety at this spot, when the waters are calm and the sun beams down. Could it be that the spirits of the brave village defenders of the Battle of Pultneyville are watching down on us as we enjoy ourselves? Be sure to check out the Society's website to see more photos of this beautiful village and events.
