  THE petition of........... Abraham Garlock ........ a minor, respectfully Showeth, that your petitioner is now a resident of the town of .......... In the said county of Wayne, and the .... he .... was aged ... 16 ... years on the ... fifth ... day of .... May ... 1847, as ...he ... has always understood and believes to be true. YOUR petitioner is desirous to have a guardian appointed during…his…minority, and hereby nominates ..... Jacob Garlock .......... of the town of ...... Marion......in the county of ........ Wayne ..... and the State of ..... New York .... to be .... his..... guardian, and prays that the said..... Jacob Garlock.... may be appointed accordingly.

Transcribers Note: The document heading clearly writes out that Abram is "fourteen years of age", however, the handwritten age included in the body of the petition cannot be construed as anything but the number "16".
