University of Kansas Searchable Database of Books and Articles: not just Kansas. State histories, memoirs, etc. of the Heartland, that can help trace people back to where they came from - "Back East". These searchable online volumes are an excellent resource, containing the names of a horde of New Yorkers, often giving a helpful, chronological list of their successive, farflung residences. Unfortunately, the NYS town and county are not always specified, so there may be short bios of many more Wayne County people whom one could find using a surname search.

Obits Look-ups Volunteers: web site that allows people to volunteer for and request obituary lookups from all around the U.S., Canada, and internationally. The RootsWeb mailing list, OBIT-LOOKUPS-L, provides a way to make requests for locations that don't have volunteers listed on the web site.
