Early Wayne County NY Land Papers

The list below is an index of early surveying records and land certificates which are in the archives of the State of New York in Albany. At the time these lands were granted, so few people lived in Wayne County that one can rightly say that some of the men listed below were early developers. When these papers were filed, parts of Wayne County were sections of greater early Onondaga and Cayuga Counties.The term "lot" is very important in Wayne County land and deed research as it refers to a portion, or lot, of the old Military Tract, or lands set aside for veterans of the Medical Division in the Revolutionary War. If reference is made to a lot on a Wayne County deed, you can pinpoint approximately where your ancestor resided. Maps showing the lots can be viewed at the Wayne County Dept. of History and Tourism. Nov. 30. Return of survey for Henry Oothoudt of a tract of 630 acres of land on the south side of Lake Ontario, between the lands ceded to Massachusetts and the lands set apart for the troops of the State of New York (Sodus, Wayne Co.)

July 5. Return of survey of a certain tract of land near Sodus bay, Cayuga county, set apart by the commissioners of the land office, to compensate Charles Williamson for lands between the old and new pre-emption lines (Huron, Rose, Wolcott and Butler, Wayne Co.)
