Henry Greene, a highly respected resident of Farmington, passed away Thursday, September 20, aged 87 years. He was born in Rochester on Scio street, January 21, 1841 and was 87 years of age. When five years old his parents moved to Macedon, the journey being made by Erie canal where he resided until he purchased the Seth Bosworth farm in Farmington in 1875 and has resided in this town ever since.

On December 17, 1873 he was united in marriage to Cynthia Carpenter, only daughter of Isaac and Sarah Carpenter, who passed away October 20, 1898.

He was a man of sterling character, honest and upright in all his ways, of excellent business ability, his judgment was prized by many. He was superintendent of highways for 13 years, president of the North Farmington Cemetery Association, the first to agitate the founding of the organization and gave the first fund to the promotion of the same. He was president of this association and conducted the last meeting which was held August 25. He was the first to suggest and solicit funds for the vault which has recently been erected in the North Farmington cemetery and which is a memorial to him. Greene was an ardent member and did a great deal of the work for Farmington Grange, always attending when his health permitted and was Master of the Grange for three terms, the last time when he was 78 years old. He was given the honor a few years ago of being made life member of the Grange.

He leaves his wife Carrie Haynes Greene, who he married on September 2, 1920; one brother Charles A. Greene of Macedon, a niece, Mrs. Alice Eglin of Elkhorn, Wis., one nephew, Charles Greene of St. Paul, Minn., two sons, George W. Greene of Macedon, Joseph I. The funeral-was held from his old home on Sunday, September 23 at 2.00 o'clock. Services were conducted by Rev. Isaac Wilson of Buck Hills, Pa., who stated the gathering of friends at the home who came to pay their last respects was the largest he had ever attended. The profusion of floral tributes evidenced the esteem in which he was held.

Henry Greene's surviving wife, Carrie Haynes, is stated as the widow of John Padgham on Henry's fineagrave.com page.
